Christopher I, Burgrave and Count of Dohna-Schlodien

Christoph I. Burggraf and Graf Dohna - Schlodien ( born April 2, 1665 Coppet Castle on Lake Geneva, † October 11, 1733 in Schlodien, East Prussia ) was a Brandenburg- Prussian general and diplomat.

Life

Christoph von Dohna was born the son of Friedrich von Dohna (1621-1688), Governor of the Principality of Orange, and Sperentia du Puy Montbrun. He was brought up as his brother Alexander von Dohna among others, Pierre Bayle, joined in 1670 as a cornet in the Brandenburg army. In 1680 he became a captain in the regiment Barfus walking under Hans Albrecht of Barfus and took in 1686 at the Hungarian campaign against the Turks in part. On October 20, 1689 became a colonel in the Grands Mousquetaires and fought as such in 1692 against France ( siege of Bonn, Battle of Fleurus ). In 1698 he became chief of the regiment Barfus on foot, on August 20, Major-General and Minister to England, on November 3, 1699 real Privy Council. On January 17, 1701, he was elected one of the first in the High Order of the Black Eagle and once again sent on a diplomatic mission to London. On February 4, 1702 promoted to lieutenant general. As an opponent of Count Kolbe von Wartenberg he retired in 1704 largely from the back yard and was reactivated only after its fall. He was 1711 Royal Prussian envoy at the election of Charles VI. to the emperor. On March 28, 1713, he was promoted from the new King Friedrich Wilhelm I to General of Infantry. He was also real Secret State and Council of War and Amtshauptmann of Prussian Holland. 1715 he took part in the siege of Stralsund. His adjutant was Friedrich Otto von Barfus, the eldest son of his former superiors. On February 10, 1716 Dohna gave his regiment, laid down his offices and retired to his estate in Schlodien back.

He was ancestor of the house Schlodien.

Family

On November 18, 1690 he married Frede ( Friederike ) Marie ( * December 28, 1660, † November 22, 1729 in Gdansk ), daughter of Count Christian Albrecht of Dohna. The couple had the following children:
