Christopher Lowson

Christopher Lowson ( born February 3, 1953 in Consett, County Durham ) is a British Anglican theologian. He is since 2011 the Bishop of Lincoln in the Church of England.

Life

Lowson comes from a family of steel workers. His father, his grandfather and great-grandfather worked in the steel mills of Consett. His grandfather, a professional football player in the 1920s had to play the offer for Newcastle United, but went with his family to Lincoln, where he played professionally for Lincoln City. Lowson also worked at the beginning of his priestly formation as a holiday worker during two summers as a laborer at the steel furnaces in Consett. He attended the Blackfyne Comprehensive School and the Consett Grammar School. At the age of 13, shortly after his confirmation, he beschäfte for the first time with the idea of becoming a priest. While working as a priest and pastor, he studied part-time from 1994 to 1996 at Heythrop College, University of London. He finished his studies in 1996 with a Master of Theology in Pastoral Theology specialist. In 2003, he earned a Master of Laws degree in Canon Law ( canon law) at Cardiff Law School.

In 1977 he was ordained a deacon; 1978 was followed by his ordination. His priestly career began from 1977 to 1982 as a vicar ( Curate ) in Richmond, Surrey. Subsequently he was pastor until 1991 at the Holy Trinity Church in Eltham, first with the official title " Priest in Charge" and then as " Vicar ". It was at this time also he from 1982 to 1985 was a Chaplain ( Chaplain ) on Avery Hill College, University of Greenwich, and then until 1991 at the Thames Polytechnic. In 1991 he became pastor (Vicar ) of Petersfield and Pastor ( Rector ) of Buriton. He held until 1998 this office. From 1994 to 1998 he was also Dean of the country ( Rural Dean ) of Petersfield.

In December 1998 he became Archdeacon of Portsmouth ( Archdeacon, head of a parish church ) in the Diocese of Portsmouth. Shortly after taking office, the Archdeacon was divided ( Archdeacon of the Meon and Archdeacon of Portsdown ). Lowson was then to January 2006 Archdeacon of Portsdown in the county of Hampshire. He was Chairman ( Chairman ) of the Diocese of Portsmouth 's Board of Ministry and chaired the Cairo project, a project of spiritual- religious renewal in the parishes of the Diocese of Portsmouth. In February 2006 he was "Director of the Ministry Division " in the Council of the Archbishop of Canterbury. He consulted the House of Bishops, the Archbishops ' Council and the General Synod of the Church of England in matters of priestly formation. He also was pastor in 2006 ( Priest Vicar) at Westminster Abbey.

In April 2011 he was appointed Bishop of Lincoln was announced. He was the successor of John Saxbee, who had entered retirement in January 2011. Lowson election as Bishop of Lincoln was July 19, 2011 formally confirmed in Lambeth Palace, which he officially Bishop of Lincoln was. On September 21, 2011, he was by Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, consecrated bishop in Westminster Abbey bishop. His solemn inauguration and enthronement took place at the Lincoln Cathedral on November 12, 2011.

Lowson is married to his wife Susan Lowson since 1976. His wife is a state - registered nurse and geriatric nurse ( Registered General and Paediatric Nurse). She works as a " Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman " and advises on clinical issues in complaints about the National Health Service. It also belongs to the church council at ( Church Warden ) of St Matthew 's Church in Westminster. The marriage was preceded by two adult children, now produced a son and a daughter.

His hobbies include walking, sports ( as a spectator, especially cricket and football), contemporary literature, theater and cooking.
