Chuma (La Paz)

Chuma is a village in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Chuma is the administrative seat of the province Muñecas and central place of the district ( bolivian: Municipio) Chuma at the headwaters of a tributary to the Río Llica flowing over the Río Mapiri the Río Beni. The village lies at an altitude of 3500 m between the edge union mountain bars of the Bolivian Cordillera Apolobamba.

Geography

Chuma is located on the Bolivian Altiplano at the western edge of the Cordillera Real. The climate of the region is a typical diurnal climate where the temperature variations during the day be more pronounced as the year progresses.

Chuma is located 245 kilometers by road from La Paz, the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz the paved highway Ruta 2 runs north 70 kms to Huarina, from there the Ruta 16 through Achacachi and Puerto Carabuco about another 95 km along largely unpaved roads to Puerto Acosta. From there one track branches off to the northeast and crosses Huilacala and Mocomoco by Chuma.

Tourism

About 15 kilometers east of Chuma located near the village of Aucapata the ruins of Iskanwaya that originate from the first millenium and the Mollo culture are attributed.
