Chūō Shinkansen

The Chūō Shinkansen (Japanese中央 新 干线) is a planned maglev line of type JR - Maglev from Tokyo to Nagoya to Osaka in Japan. It is the result of research that are operated since the 70s of the last century by Japan Airlines and Japanese National Railways. The trains in Japan as a linear motor car (リニア モーター カー, Rinia Mota kā ) known, of which there are several variants.

Basics

Since the mid -1980s has been discussed repeatedly over an alternative route for the Tōkaidō Shinkansen between Tokyo and Osaka. In this set from the beginning, the following key points:

  • The use in the speed range above 300 km / h to 600 km / h;
  • A significant reduction in track maintenance costs (compared to wheel-rail )
  • Halving the travel time over the existing Rad/Schiene- high-speed connection between Tokyo and Osaka,
  • A significant reduction in noise emissions, as well as
  • A reduction of ground motion.

These key points identified at that time indicated that a one -speed maglev line had specifically in mind.

After much back and forth, mainly due to the Japanese recession, the president of the JR Central Masayuki Matsumoto left with the message sit up, the JR Central will open a maglev line between Tokyo and Nagoya in 2025.

On December 25, 2007, JR Central announced the launch of plans for the construction of the route from Tokyo to Nagoya. Here, with a total cost sum of about 5 trillion yen (about 29 billion euros ( price for 2007 Eur / Yen 1:170 ) end ) is expected.

As can be seen from the report that JR Central has the right to pay the entire track itself. At the test track were still local and central government involved. Whether the calculated total costs also holds, it will be seen only during the first few years of construction.

Estimates of cost up to 70 billion euros.

After completion of the entire route to Osaka, the line is to replace the airline between the two cities, as it has already done the Tōkaidō Shinkansen between Nagoya and Tokyo.

Yamanashi test track

How serious was the Japanese in the realization of the Chūō Shinkansen project and is already showing the design of the test track in Yamanashi prefecture as part of the future route of a line. Only 18 km, during the years of the original 42 -kilometer track were built in 1990 to 1996. Since then, several series of experiments run with the Maglev vehicles. On 2 December 2003 while the top speed of 581 km / h was achieved. It is planned to expand the route to 2013 its entire length. On August 28, 2013 began testing.

On the Yamanashi test facility, there is the opportunity to participate in a free ride on the train. This possibility had already used more than 200,000 people. The demand for tickets on the test track exceeds supply in a ratio of about 100 to one, rides are offered on most days.

Route planning

Currently it is planned to build the route largely along the Chūō Main Line between Tokyo and Nagoya and Kansai Main Line, outgoing to Osaka. The main reason for this alternative route is to provide an escape route in the event of a blockage of the Tōkaidō Shinkansen earthquake or other influences. Furthermore, would bring about a parallel line guide for Tōkaidō Shinkansen unnecessary competition of the two lines.

Currently, the following stops are known:

  • Tokyo
  • ( Sagamihara )
  • ( Kofu )
  • ( Iida )
  • ( Nakatsugawa )
  • Nagoya
  • ( Kameyama )
  • ( Nara )
  • Osaka
