Ciutadella de Menorca
Ciutadella [ siwtəðeʎə ] (Spanish: Ciudadela [ θiwðaðela ] ) is a municipality on the west side of the island of Menorca with 29 629 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The town of Ciutadella was from antiquity to the 18th century, the capital of Minorca, and was then replaced by Mahon. Today she is to Mahon 's second largest city on the island and seat of the Bishop's Island, Ferry and tourist destination.

Geography
The town of Ciutadella is situated on a natural harbor on the west coast of Menorca. The municipal area is the largest area on the island and includes more than a quarter of its total area.

History

Culture and sights
The Old Town
Worth seeing is the historical old town. The main square of the city is located high above the harbor Plaça des Born with the Town Hall ( Ayuntamiento ), which at the Alcazar, the castle of the Moorish governor, goes back and received its present form at the end of the 19th century by the architect Josep Maria Sagnier. In the middle of the square reminds a white obelisk erected in 1857 to the pirate attack in the 16th century. Traffic
Ciutadella is the western terminus of the main island road Me-1, the Menorca from Mahon made along traverses ( and at the same time is also the only road connecting the community with the rest of the island).
