Clarence Richard Silva

Clarence Richard Silva ( born August 6, 1949 in Honolulu, Hawaii) is an American clergyman and Bishop of Honolulu.

Life and work

Silva, Americans of Portuguese descent, attended St. Joseph's Seminary in Mountain View, California and the St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park. On 2 May 1975, he received by the Bishop of Oakland, Floyd Lawrence Begin, the sacrament of Holy Orders. He worked as a pastor in Oakland, Hayward, Pittsburgh, El Cerrito and Fremont. From 2004 to 2005 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of Oakland.

May 17, 2005 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. as the successor of Francis Xavier DiLorenzo 5th Bishop of Honolulu. He received his episcopal consecration of the Prefect of the Congregation of the Faith, Archbishop William Joseph Levada, July 21 the same year. Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Oakland, Allen Henry Vigneron and his predecessor John Stephen Cummins.
