Clearwater is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is located in Stearns and Wright County and has 858 inhabitants.

Geography

Clearwater is located in the northwest of the metropolitan Minneapolis -Saint Paul. The majority of the city is located in Wright County, only an uninhabited area of ​​0.18 square kilometers, is part of Stearns County. To the east of the town of Mississippi, flows into the north of Clearwater Clearwater River runs. History

Clearwater was built in the 1850s by the settlement of migrants from New England and Canada. The population grew rapidly and in 1856 at a sawmill and two flour mills was at the Clearwater River into operation. In the same year the post office was opened. The city was named after the river and lake.

In 1897 a flood caused by heavy rains break the dam on the Clearwater River and a railroad bridge to collapse.

Previously there was a connection to a cable ferry from Clearwater to the opposite side of the Mississippi. It was established in 1856 and has long been in operation. Today, a bridge of the Minnesota State Route 24 crosses the river.
