Clint Roberts

Clint Ronald Roberts ( born January 30, 1935 in Presho, Lyman County, South Dakota ) is a former American politician. Between 1981 and 1983 he represented the second electoral district of the state of South Dakota in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years

Clint Roberts attended the public schools of his home. In 1952 he graduated at the Presho High School. Then he studied until 1953 at Black Hills State College in Spearfish. In the following years he worked as a farmer and rancher. He also was the owner of a clothing business.

Political career

Roberts was a member of the Republican Party. From 1972 to 1978 he was a member of the Senate of South Dakota. In 1978, he competed unsuccessfully for the post of Governor of South Dakota. Between 1979 and 1980 he was Minister of Agriculture in his home state.

1980 Roberts was elected in the second district of South Dakota in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he took over from the January 3, 1981 James Abdnor, who joined in the U.S. Senate. Roberts was able to complete only one term in Congress. He was the last members of the second constituency of South Dakota: At a redistribution of Congress mandates this was abolished. Roberts ran in 1982 for the only remaining constituency of South Dakota for a further term, but lost it Tom Daschle, the Democratic Party candidate. Between 1987 and 1989, Clint Roberts then led the energy supply authority (Energy Office ) of South Dakota. Roberts now lives in his birthplace of Presho.
