Philo Hall

Philo Hall ( born December 31, 1865 in Wilton, Waseca County, Minnesota, † October 7, 1938 in Brookings, South Dakota ) was an American politician. Between 1907 and 1909 he represented the first electoral district of the state of South Dakota in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and political rise

Philo Hall attended the public schools of his home. After a subsequent law degree in 1887 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started working in the village of Brookings in this profession. From 1892 to 1898 he was district attorney in Brookings County. Hall was a member of the Republican Party and was 1901-1903 Member of the Senate of South Dakota. Between 1902 and 1906 he served as Attorney General of the State.

Hall in the U.S. Congress

In the congressional elections of 1906 he was nominated by his party against the incumbent Charles H. Burke and elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. There he represented between 4 March 1907, and March 3, 1909 the first electoral district of his state. Prior to the elections of 1908 he lost his predecessor Burke in the nomination of his party. Thus his seat in Congress fell back to Burke. After the end of his time in Washington Hall again worked as a lawyer. In 1923 he was a delegate to the Republican convention in South Dakota. Philo Hall died in October 1938.
