Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield

Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield is a football club based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, who won under coach Carlos Bianchi with José Luis Chilavert in goal both the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup in 1994.

History

The club was founded on 1 January 1910 as Club Atlético Argentino de Vélez Sarsfield. In 1913 the name was shortened to Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield. Was named the club after Dalmacio Velez Sarsfield. This was a politician and jurist, he wrote the Constitution of Buenos Aires and worked on Argentina's first civil code.

Since 2009, El Fortin is coached by Ricardo Gareca. Gareca played from 1989 to 1992 still active for the blue-white, almost 20 years later Gareca returned as coach back to Sarsfield and leutete a one of the most successful stages of the club's history. Gareca led his team to two league titles ( Apertura 2009 and Clausura 2011) and a runner ( Apertura 2010).

Stadium

The home ground of CA Velez Sarsfield is the Estadio José Amalfitani in Av. Juan B. Justo 9200 in the Liniers neighborhood of Buenos Aires. It was named after José Amalfitani, which was more than 30 years of club president. The stadium has a capacity of 49 747 seats and was a venue for the World Cup 1978.

In this World Championships at the Estadio José Amalfitani took place three games of the preliminary round group C ( Austria against Spain 2-1, 1-0 Austria against Sweden and Spain against Sweden 1:0). It was the venue of some games at the Junior World Championships in 2001.
