Colin Calderwood

Colin Calderwood ( born January 20, 1965 in Stranraer, Scotland ) is a former Scottish footballer and current coach. In his coaching career he was responsible for, among other things so far Nottingham Forest and Hibernian.

Playing career

Calderwood began his professional career at Mansfield Town. For the 1985/86 season, he spent £ 27,500 to Viertlisisten Swindon Town, with whom he in the first year as a master in the Third Division ascended the same. It was followed by the direct walkover in the second division, as a Swindon had initially and then switched off in the play-off for promotion Wigan Athletic FC Gillingham. In 1990, on the play-offs the sports promotion to the First Division. Due to illegal payments, classified the Association Swindon back to the third tier. Calderwood was involved in the scandal and was four weeks in custody.

In 1993 Calderwood to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. During his time at Tottenham, where he played 162 league games, he was Scottish national team. From 1995 to 1999, he played 36 international matches and scored one goal. He participated in the 1996 European Championships and the 1998 World Cup.

After his departure from Tottenham Hotspur in 2000, he played a short time at Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Notts County, before he ended his active career in 2001.

Coaching career

Northampton Town

After ending his playing career Calderwood was coach of the reserve team of Tottenham Hotspur. In October 2003 he took over the team of Northampton Town and established the club in the following years in the upper third of the table the fourth division. In the season 2005/ 06 he reached with his team promotion to the third division.

Nottingham Forest

In 2006 he took over as coach at Nottingham Forest. The club had won in 1978 under manager Brian Clough, the English championship and then after the other got twice the European Champion Clubs' Cup, was relegated to the third-rate Football League One in 2005. Talented young players like Jermaine Jenas, Michael Dawson and Andy Reid had left the team and the club had big financial problems. The starting position was correspondingly negative, but Calderwood led the club already in the 2006/07 season to fourth place the third division. In the first play-off round, however, Forest failed to Yeovil Town. According to a further increase in performance and the runner-up in the 2007/ 08 season Calderwood reached together with players like Kris Commons, James Perch and Wes Morgan a year later promotion to the Football League Championship.

However, the return to the second division proved subsequently more difficult than expected and after 26 matches and a tie with a relegation place, the Executive Board decided him on 26 December 2008 after the 2:4 home defeat against Doncaster Rovers to dismiss.

In late January 2009, he took over as coach of the reserve team of Newcastle United and after the descent of the first team from the Premier League 2008 /09 the position as assistant coach Chris Hughton.

Since October 18, 2010 Colin Calderwood coached the Scottish first division club Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League. According to a tenth place in the 2010/11 season he was fired after a re not satisfactory start to the season on 6 November 2011.
