Conyngham Greene

William Greene Conynham KCB, GCMG, PC ( born October 29, 1854 in Dublin, † June 30, 1934 ) was a British diplomat.

Life

William Conynham Greene was the son of Louisa Plunkett and BJ Greene. He studied at the Harrow School, Pembroke College, Oxford. On October 9, 1877, he joined the Foreign Service. He was employed in Athens, Stuttgart, Darmstadt, The Hague and Brussels. In 1884 he married Frances Lily Stopford. They had one daughter and two sons. In 1894 he was charge d'affaires in Tehran. From August 25, 1896 bis October 11, 1899, he was a British agent in Pretoria Republic of South Africa. After the mission in the Second Boer War took place there. In 1900 he was made a Knight. From 1901 to 1905 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister for plénipotentiaire in Bern. In 1905 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister for plénipotentiaire in Bucharest. From 1910 to 1912 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister for plénipotentiaire in Copenhagen.
