Corbenay

Corbenay is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Corbenay situated at an altitude of 270 m above sea level, 10 km north-northwest of Luxeuil -les- Bains and about 33 km north- northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the north of the department, in the plain of Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse, north of the valley of the Combeauté, at the edge of the heights of Voge.

The area of ​​15.73 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plain of Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse. The southern boundary runs mostly along the Combeauté, with several turns here flows through a wide Alluvialniederung to the west. The river bifurcates at several points in parallel flowing watercourses. The islands are mostly passed with riparian forest. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward over the plain, flowing in the Ruisseau des Caleuches and the Ruisseau du Clos two other streams parallel to the west, and across a woodland in the lowlands of Augronne and Semouse. The latter marks the northern boundary. In the west of the municipality floor extends to the outskirts of Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse. East of Corbenay the land rises slightly. Here are the extensive forests of Bois du Chanet and Bois de Corbenay. With 331 m in the north- east, in the Bois des Blanches Carrière, reached the highest elevation of Corbenay. The hills are made of red sandstone of the Lower Triassic.

Neighboring communities of Corbenay are Aillevillers -et- Lyaumont and La Vaivre in the north, Fougerolles in the east, Fontaine- lès- Luxeuil in the south and Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse and Magnoncourt in the West.

History

Is mentioned in a document Corbenay in 1293rd In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. In addition, the priories of Fontaine and Hérival possessed rights in the village. Already at the beginning of the 19th century Corbenay developed thanks to the abundant water power to an industrial and business center with mills, brickyards, blast furnaces and iron processing industry. With the opening of the railway line from Lure via Luxeuil after Epinal Corbenay was tied in the second half of the 19th century to the French railway network. Today Corbenay is a member of the 12 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Val de Semouse.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Laurent was rebuilt in the 19th century on the site of an earlier temple and 1995 completely restored. For notable appointments include rich sculpted pulpit in Louis XV style, a Calvaire (16th century) in the baptistery, a Madonna statue from the 14th century and various other statues from the 18th century. On the road to Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse is a 19th-century neo-Gothic chapel.

Population

With 1328 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Corbenay belongs to the medium-sized towns in the Haute- Saône. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​950-1150 people, a significant population growth was recorded during the 1960s and 1970s. With more than 1400 inhabitants, the previous high was reached at the beginning of the 1980s. Since then, relatively small fluctuations were only observed.

Economy and infrastructure

Corbenay made ​​early on by the development of a marked industrial and commercial location. The most important employer is now a company in the metal industry ( ESAC Euro Cooler SA). In addition, there are various companies of small and medium enterprises, mainly in the fields of precision engineering and manufacturing of kitchen appliances. Corbenay furthermore have various operations of the retail trade and the service for the daily needs. It is the site of an Inter Marché. In recent decades, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the other major towns of the region Luxeuil.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the secondary road D64, which runs from Luxeuil -les- Bains via Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse after Contrexévillenear. Further road links exist with Fougerolles and Aillevillers. The nearest train station is in Aillevillers.
