Francalmont

Francalmont is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Francalmont situated at an altitude of 248 m above sea level, 9 km west-northwest of Luxeuil -les- Bains and about 26 km north- northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the department, in a niche on the northern edge of the valley of the Lanterne.

The area of ​​6.86 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Lanterne. From east to west, the area is crossed by the Alluvialniederung the Lanterne, which provides for the drainage Saône. In the floodplains of the river is characterized several turns, forming small river islands and has natural riverside areas. The valley is on average 238 m and has a width of about two kilometers wide. It is used partly agricultural, partly it is passed with riparian forest. In the Talniederung the Roge flows more or less parallel to the Lanterne, in which she opens only when Briaucourt.

South of the Lanterne conducts an approximately 40 m high ground level on the wooded height of Boulay (288 m). It is constructed of red sandstone of the Lower Triassic. To the north, the municipality's area extends beyond the advanced Cote Hill (285 m) up to the plateau of the Bois de Varenne. Here the highest elevation of Francalmont is achieved with 304 m. It consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

Neighboring communities of Francalmont are Saint-Loup- sur- Semouse in the north, Hautevelle in the east, and Ormoiche Briaucourt in the south and Ainvelle in the West.

History

Remains of Gallo- Roman period indicate a very early settlement of the area. Here is a grave stele was found which represents a man with a scythe. It is now in the Museum of Vesoul. In the Middle Ages Francalmont belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. It was the field of Saint- Loup allocated which was under the Lords of Faucogney. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Francalmont is a member of the 12 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Val de Semouse.

Attractions

The village church of Francalmont was rebuilt in the 18th century and houses a wealth of furniture and paintings from this period. Behind the church is a Gothic Calvaire. From the 18th century comes the former seat of power. The chapel Notre- Dame-de- toutes - Graces (19th century) is a scenic location on the top of La Côte.

Population

With 119 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Francalmont one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 330 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Francalmont is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes. The main access is from the secondary road that leads from Luxeuil -les- Bains to Conflans -sur- Lanterne. Further road links exist with Ainvelle and Hautevelle.
