Ormoiche

Ormoiche is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ormoiche situated at an altitude of 253 m above sea level, 5 km west of Luxeuil -les- Bains and about 24 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the department, in the plane of Luxeuil west of the Vosges Mountains, north of the river of Breuchin.

The area of ​​5.72 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the level of Luxeuil. From south to north the area is drained by the Lanterne, which draws several turns. The alluvial plain is on average 250 m and is used mainly for agricultural purposes. West of the village flows the Breuchin in the Lanterne, the sections marked the southern boundary.

Northwest of Ormoiche the Lanterne flows through a valley (290 m) separates the forest heights of Mont Marot the west by the ridge of the Forêt des Sept- Chevaux in the east. This is divided by the small valley of various short tributaries of Breuchin and the Lanterne. With 316 meters, the highest elevation of Ormoiche is achieved in the Forêt des Sept- Chevaux. The back consists partly of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ), partly emerge and sandstone of the lower Triassic and the crystalline basement.

Neighboring communities of Ormoiche are Hautevelle in the north, Breuches the east and south, and Sainte -Marie- de - Chaux and Francalmont in the West.

History

Wall foundations of a large Gallo-Roman estate, point to a very early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages Ormoiche belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government has held the monastery of Luxeuil. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Even the Priory Hautevelle possessed of rights and goods in place. Today is Ormoiche Member of the comprehensive 13 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Luxeuil. Ormoiche belongs to the parish Breuches.

Attractions

Worth seeing are two Calvaires from the 18th century, the village fountain, and various houses from the 17th to the 19th century, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône.

Population

With 69 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is one of the smallest municipalities Ormoiche of the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 181 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Ormoiche is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Luxeuil -les- Bains to Conflans -sur- Lanterne.
