Magnivray

Magnivray is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Magnivray situated at an altitude of 345 m above sea level, 8 km east-southeast of Luxeuil -les- Bains and about 30 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northeastern part of the department, on the western slope of the Plateau des Mille Étangs, at the edge of the plain of Luxeuil.

The area of ​​4.76 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the southwestern Vosges foothills. The main part of the area is occupied by a sloping gently to the southwest slope of the plateau des Mille Étangs, which is used primarily for agricultural purposes. The Lambier and its headwaters provide for drainage to the Lanterne. There are numerous ponds, most of which have been dammed up (partly by monks in the 11th century ) and used for fish farming.

Larger forest areas are found along the municipal boundaries, in the west of Grand Bois and the Vay de Brest, north of the corrin and the Northeast Les Epoisses. With 361 m of the Grove Les Epoisses is achieved the highest elevation of Magnivray at the edge. In geological- tectonic respects the terrain consists of red sandstone of the Lower Triassic. On the west, the municipality's area extends into the alluvial plain of Luxeuil, which is on average 300 m.

  • Les Fouillies de Magnivray (313 m) at the edge of the plain of Luxeuil
  • La Maison Rouge ( 325 m) on the slope below Magnivray

Neighboring communities of Magnivray are La Bruyère and La Corbières to the north, Belmont to the east, and Rignovelle Citers in the south and Esboz -Brest in the west.

History

In the Middle Ages Magnivray belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Magnivray is a member of the comprehensive 13 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Luxeuil.

Attractions

The village church of Magnivray was rebuilt in the 19th century. In a house in the village there is a sculpture of the Holy Trinity from the 16th or 17th century.

Population

With 172 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Magnivray one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 414 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Magnivray was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and the fish embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Lure by Breuchotte. Further road links exist with Saint- Sauveur, La corbière and Belmont.
