Froideconche

Froideconche is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Froideconche lies at an altitude of 300 m above sea level, 2.5 km east of Luxeuil -les- Bains and about 30 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the department, on the northeastern edge of the plain of Luxeuil, on the northern shore of Breuchin, at the edge of the western foothills of the Vosges.

The area of ​​16.04 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the level of Luxeuil. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the valley of the Breuchin, which provides drainage for Lanterne. Northeast of Froideconche in the level of Luxeuil enters the Breuchin out of a narrow and widens its valley, which is on average 300 m, a width of about two kilometers. The alluvial plain is passed outside the settlement area of meadow land. On the south side of the valley from the Bois de Laleau is limited.

To the north, the municipality's area extends over the adjacent ridge, which is covered by vast forests: Bois d' Emery and Les Grandes Coupes. It is subdivided by several short little valley, which reach the level of Breuchin at Froideconche. The streams Morbief and Ruisseau de la Cubette be dammed at several locations to ponds that are used to fish farming. The northern border is at the height of Saint- Valbert, which forms the watershed between the catchment areas of Breuchin and Combeauté. With 436 m is reached on the plateau of Chapendu the extreme northeast is the highest elevation of Froideconche. In geological- tectonic terms, these heights are composed of crystalline bedrock and from Permian strata.

History

In the Middle Ages Froideconche belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the abbots of the monastery of Luxeuil. Already in 1466 there is evidence that paper mill in Froideconche. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Froideconche is a member of the comprehensive 13 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Luxeuil.

Attractions

The village church of Froideconche was rebuilt in the 19th century with red sandstone as building fabric. It houses a richly carved pulpit in oak wood ( 18th century). From the 17th century one of Calvary originates in the village, another 18th-century stands in Granges -de- l'Hôpital. Also worth seeing is a covered Lavoir, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle.

Population

With 1988 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Froideconche to the large municipalities of the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had been in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​950-1120 people, a significant population growth was recorded from 1960 to 1980. During this time, the population has almost doubled. Since then a slight population decline is observed again.

Economy and infrastructure

Froideconche has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), forestry and fish farming embossed village.
