Rignovelle

Rignovelle is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Rignovelle situated at an altitude of 319 m above sea level, 9 km north of Lure and about 29 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northeastern part of the department, in a depression on the western slope of the Plateau des Mille Étangs, at the edge of the plain of Luxeuil.

The area of ​​4.76 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the southwestern Vosges foothills. The western part of the area occupied by the alluvial plain of Luxeuil, which is on average 310 m. It is drained by the Lambier and its headwaters west to the Lanterne. Agricultural land use predominates here. There are also numerous ponds, most of which have been dammed up (partly by monks in the 11th century ) and used for fish farming. Among the largest are Etang des Brosses and La Noie Sebille.

To the east, the land rises gradually to the Plateau des Mille Étangs and shows a stronger reliefing with troughs and crests (Les Hautois and Tête the HET, 359 m). Larger forest areas are found in the area of ​​municipal boundaries, south of the Bois des Combes and east of the Bois de la Branle. With 362 meters, the highest elevation of Rignovelle is achieved in this grove. With a narrow tip, the municipality's area extends eastward to the floodplains of the Lanterne. History

The discovery of Roman coins indicates a very early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages Rignovelle belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Rignovelle is a member of the 14 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Franches - Communes.

Population

With 96 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is one of the smallest municipalities Rignovelle of the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 253 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Rignovelle was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and the fish embossed village. There is also a dairy operation today. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Luxeuil -les- Bains to Mélisey. Further road links exist with Franchevelle, Magnivray and Belmont.
