Conflans-sur-Lanterne

Conflans -sur- Lanterne is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Conflans -sur- Lanterne lies at an altitude of 232 m above sea level, 13 km west of Luxeuil -les- Bains and about 22 km north of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the department, in the wide valley at the confluence of Semouse and Lanterne.

The area of ​​13.09 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Lanterne. From east to west, the area is crossed by the Alluvialniederung the Lanterne, which provides for the drainage Saône. In the floodplains of the river draws many turns and has natural riverside areas. The valley is on average 228 m and has a maximum width of 4 kilometers on. It is used partly agricultural, partly it is passed with riparian forest. History

Is first mentioned Conflans in 1241. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government has held the monastery of Luxeuil. During this time, the place became a small, fortified market town. During the Thirty Years' War Conflans in 1636 attacked and burned down by Swedish troops. In the 17th century a convent was founded. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Towards the end of the 19th century the village was connected with the opening of the railway line from Faverney after Aillevillers to the French railway network. The operation of the line was discontinued in the meantime. Conflans was officially renamed in 1962 in Conflans -sur- Lanterne, to avoid confusion with other communities of the same name. Today Conflans -sur- Lanterne is a member of the comprehensive 20 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Belles Sources.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Maurice is classified as a monument historique and shows elements from different eras. Chancel and side chapels in Gothic style date from the 14th century, the bell tower is decorated in classic style, and the ship was rebuilt in the 18th century. For valuable Interior features include rich sculpted altars and paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. In the cemetery there is a cross in the 17th century. Population

With 649 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Conflans -sur- Lanterne one of the smaller towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1911 995 people were still counted ), entered from 1960 to 1985 a phase of stagnation. Since then, a slight decline in population was recorded again.
