Corcelles, Bern

Corcelles is a municipality in the administrative district in the canton of Bern Bernese Jura in Switzerland.

Geography

Corcelles is on 655 m above sea level. M., 6 km east of Moutier (air line). The former street line village extends over the Jura Mountains, in the Cornet, the eastern part of the Jura latitudinal Moutier, which also bears the name of Grand Val. Corcelles lies at the foot of a small pass called La hauteur (795 m above sea level. M. ), the Crémines connects with Vermes in the canton of Jura.

The area of ​​6.8 km ² large municipality area includes the easternmost portion of the Grand Val, bounded on the north by the Mont Raimeux. The area extends north through the densely wooded escarpment Le Beucle up on the plateau of Mont Raimeux (up to 1,143 m above sea level. Population

With 209 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Corcelles one of the small communities of the Bernese Jura. Of the 84.4 % inhabitants are French-speaking and German-speaking 15.1 % (as of 2000). The population of Corcelles amounted in 1850 to 180 residents in 1900 to 187 inhabitants. During the 20th century, they always hovered in the range 180-220 people.

Economy

Corcelles is still dominantly agricultural village with dairy farming, cattle breeding as well as some farming and fruit growing in the deeper layers. In recent decades, Corcelles but has increasingly developed into a residential community. Outside the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Many workers are commuters and work in Moutier. In the 19th century, iron ore was mined in Corcelles, smelting took place mainly in the blast furnaces of Ludwig Von Roll in Gänsbrunnen place, but there were also small furnaces in place.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road Moutier- Balsthal. History

His first documentary mention is the village in 1181 as Corcellis. The place name comes from the Latin word Corticella ( small yard ). Presumably, the village was founded by German farmers. It was subordinate to the end of the 18th century, the provost Moutier- Grandval. From 1797 to 1815 Corcelles belonged to France and was initially part of the Département du Mont- Terrible, which was connected to the 1800 Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern to the district of Moutier. Since 1967 there is a municipal cooperation of the municipalities of the Cornet regarding water supply, wastewater treatment and primary school.

Attractions

In the center some characteristic farmhouses dating from the early 17th century are still preserved. The hammer mill, built in 1791, has undergone an extensive renovation and 1987-1993 converted into a museum. Corcelles does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Grandval. A trail leads through the impressive gorge Gore Virat on the Raimeux de Crémines.
