History

The natural harbor of the place was already frequented in ancient times, some historians he is equated with the Arretrebarum portus ancient sources. Originating probably from the Celtic name of the place testifies to the age of the settlement.

Until the 13th century, the settlement core was found to protect against attacks from the sea inland. After a description of 1742 there were about 200 residents in the village who lived from fishing and the production of salt in salt pans.

Later in the 18th century wealthy Catalan families took over the salt flats and built them out considerably. Thus, the site experienced an economic boom that lasted until the early 20th century, but was then replaced by a deep economic crisis, which led to numerous emigration, particularly in the area of Buenos Aires. An established there home association had 3,000 members in the wedding with twice as many members as Corcubión inhabitants.
