Corina Casanova

Corina Casanova (born 4 January 1956 in Ilanz, full name Corina Casanova Lydia ) is a Swiss lawyer and since January 1, 2008 Federal Chancellor of the Swiss Confederation, the Federal Chancellery (BK ) performs as such. She is a member of the Christian Democratic People's Party ( CVP).

Biography

Casanova grew up in the villages Scuol Grisons and Ruschein, where she also attended the primary school. At the district school in Chur she earned 1977 baccalaureate type B. Subsequently, she studied law at the University of Fribourg and graduated in 1982 with a degree from. In 1984 she admitted to the Bar of the Canton of Grisons. She then worked for two years at the law firm of the former Federal Court President Giusep Nay. From 1986 to 1990 she worked as a delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross in South Africa, Angola, Nicaragua, and El Salvador.

1992 Casanova joined the federal administration and was Chief Information Officers of the Parliamentary Services. From 1996 to 1999 she worked on the staff of Federal Councillor Flavio Cotti, head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). After that, she was personal assistant to Federal Councillor Joseph Deiss in the same department. In April 2002, the Federal Council appointed Deputy General Secretary of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. On 27 April 2005 she was elected Vice- Chancellor and entered this office on 1 August 2005.

After Chancellor Annemarie Huber- Hotz announced her resignation, chose the Federal Assembly Casanova on 12 December 2007 to its successor.

Casanova speaks six languages: Romansh ( Sursilvan and Vallader ), German, French, Italian, English and Spanish.
