Cornelius Elanjikal

Cornelius Elanjikal ( Malayalam കൊര്ണേലിയസ് ഇലഞ്ഞിക്കല് ​​; born September 8, 1918 in Kara at Kodungallur, Kerala, India; † August 7, 2011 in Ernakulam, Kochi, Kerala ) was a Roman Catholic Archbishop of Verapoly.

Life

Elanjikal Cornelius, a native of Kara near Kodungallur on the Malabar Coast. He studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Catholic St. Joseph's seminary Mangalapuzha in Aluva, a seminary of the Syro - Malabar Church of the Thomas Christians and one of the largest seminaries and at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. He received on 18 March 1945 was ordained a priest. At the Pontifical Urban University, he was in Philosophy of the Upanishads and in 1948 with a dissertation on the topic De vicario cooperatore saeculari non beneficiali ( "On the spiritual world Vicarius cooperator without benefice " ) as Dr. iur. can. doctorate.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 16 January 1971 for the first Indian Bishop of Vijayapuram. Cornelius Elanjikal was from 1987 to 1996 president of the Kerala Catholic Bishops Regional Latin 'Council ( KRLCBC ) and from 1989 to 1992 president of the Kerala Catholic Bishops ' Council ( KCBC ). On June 14, 1996 Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.

Elanjikal was known for his involvement in the field of church music in Malayalam and composed over 500 songs themselves. He has published ten works, especially on the philosophy of Hinduism and Vedas, the religious texts in Hinduism. The book " Concept of God in Upanishads " is also standard work on Hindu teachers.
