Cory Clouston

Cory Clouston ( born September 19, 1969 in Viking, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach. Since June 2013 he has been head coach of the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League.

Career

His active career was short-lived. Clouston played from 1989 to 1993 in ice hockey team from the University of Alberta in the CWUAA, where he earned his bachelor's degree. Afterwards, however, he hit a career not as a professional and began to work as a trainer. During the 1994/95 season he was an assistant coach at the Powell River Paper Kings in the British Columbia Hockey League. He then became a coach and general manager of the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in. 1996 Clouston was voted coach of the year in the AJHL. From 1999 to 2002 he was assistant coach Ryan McGill under at the Kootenay Ice in the Western Hockey League. For the 2002/03 season Clouston was appointed head coach of the team. Over the next five seasons, the Kootenay Ice finished the season always with a positive balance game, but in the playoffs was the latest in the third round last stop. 2005 and 2007 he was awarded the Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy as coach of the year, the Western Hockey League. He was also with the Brian Kilrea Coach of the Year Award honored in 2005.

At the Ice Hockey World Championship U18 Junior 2005 Clouston served as assistant coach of the Canadian selection. For the season 2007/ 08 he moved to the Binghamton Senators in the American Hockey League, where he worked as a head coach again. In his debut season, the playoffs have been missed. The following season he did not finish in Binghamton. On 2 February 2009 he was appointed as successor to the sacked Craig Hartsburg the head coach of the Ottawa Senators. In the 2009/10 season he led the Senators in the playoffs, in which the team in the first round failed against the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the following season, the playoffs, however, were clearly missed and a few hours after the last lost game against the Boston Bruins Clouston was released in Ottawa. In August 2011, Clouston was introduced as the head coach of the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL. He held until the end of season 2011/12 this function.

In June 2013 he was hired by the Prince Albert Raiders as head coach.
