Brian Kilrea Coach of the Year Award

The Brian Kilrea Coach of the Year Award (German coach of the year ) is an award from the Canadian Hockey League. It is awarded to the best coaches in the three major Canadian junior leagues since the end of the 1987/88 season. To select the winner of each of the Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy is (Best coach of the Western Hockey League), the Matt Leyden Trophy (best coach of the Ontario Hockey League) and the Trophée Ron Lapointe ( Quebec Major Junior best coach of the Hockey League).

By 2003, the trophy was named CHL Coach of the Year Award before it was named after Brian Kilrea. Kilrea with the exception of three seasons since 1974 in the Ontario Hockey League as coach of the Ottawa 67 's active and thus longer than any other coach in the history of the Canadian Junior Hockey. He was five times winner of the Matt Leyden Trophy and won once the trophy as the best coach of the Canadian Hockey League.
