Lewiston MAINEiacs

The Lewiston MAINEiacs were a professional American Junior Hockey Team from Lewiston, Maine, who played from 2003 to 2011 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Its home games was from the franchise in the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The MAINEiacs were the only U.S. team in the QMJHL and won the 2007 Coupe du Président, the championship of the league.

History

For the season 1969/70, the franchise was established in Trois- Rivières, Quebec, where it played until 1992 under the name " Dukes " and " Draveurs ". By 2003, the team was in Sherbrooke as " Faucons " and " Castor " on the ice, until it was finally relocated to Lewiston.

In the first season as MAINEiacs, a portmanteau of the U.S. state of Maine and the English word " maniacs " (Eng.: Insane ), the team reached the QMJHL play-offs and failed in the first round to the Huskies de Rouyn- Noranda. In the following years the team has increased continuously until it finally won the championship of the 2007 QMJHL. In the following Memorial Cup in Vancouver, British Columbia, the championship of the umbrella organization for the Canadian Hockey League, which is played annually between the masters of Canada's three top junior leagues Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and QMJHL, the team failed in the first round.

On 31 May 2011 the team of the QMJHL was bought for 3.5 million U.S. dollars and are excluded from the game. The players of the MAINEiacs were attributed according to a dispersal draft new teams.
