Verdun Juniors

The Junior de Verdun was a Canadian ice hockey team from Verdun, Quebec. The team played from 1982 to 1984 in one of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League ( QMJHL ).

History

The Junior de Montréal Québec Major Junior Hockey from the League were moved to the suburb of Verdun in 1982 from Montreal and renamed Junior de Verdun. Already in their first season won the team for the first and only time the Coupe du Président. After they had finished the regular season in second place of the Lebel Division, they beat in the playoff finals, the Chevaliers de Longueuil 4-1 victory in the best- of-seven series. As a master of the QMJHL, the team qualified for the final tournament for the championship of the Canadian Hockey League, the Memorial Cup, in the semi-finals it defeated the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League with 5:7.

In the season 1983/84 Verdun met after re reaching the second place in his division at the Chevaliers, where 4-2 wins succeeded in revenge for the final defeat of the previous year in the playoff semifinals. Due to the sporting success of the franchise in 1984 went into partnership with the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League. It then took part henceforth under the name Canadien junior de Verdun at play operation of the QMJHL.
