Career

Jonathan Bernier began his career in 2004 at the Lewiston MAINEiacs from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. There he was in his first season back-up goalie behind Jaroslav Halák and came to a total of 23 missions. In his second year, he took the position of the root goalkeeper, posting a total of 27 victories.

After the end of the season he came in April 2006 at the U18 World Championship for the team Canada for use. Bernier completed all the games for the team and recorded a good Gegentorschnitt of 1.71 at a catch rate of 94.3 percent. However, Canada failed in the semifinals to Finland and had to after another defeat in the game settle for the bronze medal with fourth place.

Two months later, Bernier was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2006 by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round at position eleven, agreed a little later with the Kings on a three - year contract, but was at first in the QMJHL with the MAINEiacs.

In December 2006 he was invited to the training camp of the Canadian U-20 selection for the World Youth Championship, but could not prevail against Leland Irving and Carey Price himself. Instead, he continued to show good performance in the QMJHL and had at the end of the season the second best Gegentorschnitt the league. In the playoffs, he was the important support of his team, as they won the Coupe du Président and he was even awarded the Guy Lafleur Trophy as most valuable player of the playoffs. By winning the championship MAINEiacs were allowed to participate in the final round at the Memorial Cup, but failed as the first of the four teams.

In August 2007, Bernier joined with a Canadian U20 selection in the comprehensive eight- game Super Series against Russia. Canada won seven games and Bernier conceded in three games and managed only three goals as the only goalkeeper a shutout.

In September 2007, Jonathan Bernier took part in the training camp of the Los Angeles Kings, where he took his leave for a place in the NHL squad and he therefore could displace Dan Cloutier. He had the NHL season opener on September 29 in London against the defending champion Anaheim Ducks and celebrated his first win the first bet. In his subsequent operations he showed weakness and was sent back to the Lewiston MAINEiacs in the QMJHL. There he was unable to match the performance of the previous year with the team, but played itself but a good season. In the playoffs, they dropped out in the first round. Bernier was then in the squad of the Manchester Monarchs, the farm team of the Los Angeles Kings of the American Hockey League, called and disputed the games last season with the team.

From the 2008/ 09 season, he was an integral part of the Manchester Monarchs and shared usage time with Jonathan Quick. From 2010 he was laid to the NHL squad of Kings. During the NHL lockout in 2012 Bernier moved to the Heilbronner Falken, after Kevin Nastiuk and Domenic Bartels had injured.

On June 23, 2013 Bernier in exchange for Ben Scrivens, Matt Frattin, and a second-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft, was transferred in 2014 or 2015 to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
