Michael Chaput

Michael Chaput ( born April 9, 1992 at the Ile Bizard, Quebec ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player on the position of the center, which is since April 2012 when the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League under contract and currently for their farm team, the Springfield Falcons, playing in the American Hockey League.

Career

Michael Chaput began his career as a hockey player with the Lions de Lac Saint- Louis, for in the 2007/ 08 season was active in the Junior League unterklassigen QMAAA. He then moved to the Lewiston MAINEiacs in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec, the highest junior league Québec. In his rookie season, he completed 29 games for the team from the U.S. state of Maine, however, were not appointed to the playoffs in the squad. Chaput was thereby selected at the third points of the Cataractes de Shawinigan. In the NHL, he was transferred in February 2011, together with Greg Moore to Columbus Blue Jackets.

With the Cataractes he could outdo his performance from the previous year again, scoring 63 goals in 57 games, he also finished the season off with a plus / minus score of 39. In the playoffs, he scored 12 points, did not come with his team but over the quarter -finals. However, the Cataractes were qualified as hosts automatically for the Memorial Cup in 2012. Although the team finished in the first round of the fourth and last place, could, however, thanks to two victories in the knockout round of the finals. There they won with a 2-1 victory over the London Knights for the first time in club history the Memorial Cup. Chaput finished the tournament with 12 points as the best scorer and was also awarded as Most Valuable Player with the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy. He was also the All- Star team of the tournament.

On April 28, 2012, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The following season, he then moved to the farm team of the Blue Jackets, the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League. There Chaput earned a regular place in the squad and went with the team finally into the play -offs.
