Créhange

Créhange ( German Kriechingen, Lorraine Krischingen ) is a commune with 4005 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The community Créhange located on the German Nied, about ten kilometers southwest of Saint- Avold.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1121 as Krichinga and later was the county seat Kriechingen. From the castle of the Counts of Kriechingen ruins themselves have received in place today.

The Baroque Author Johann Michael Moscherosch (1601-1669) was 1631-1634 bailiff of the Earl of Kriechingen.

1793 Créhange of France was occupied and annexed what was recognized in 1801 in the Peace of Luneville.

1871-1918 was Créhange temporarily to the German Reich.
