Curtis Stevens (Boxer)

Curtis Stevens ( born March 10, 1985 in New York City ) is an American professional boxer in the middleweight division.

Career

Born and raised in the New York City borough of Brownsville, Stevens began at the age of five years with the boxes and had eight years with his first amateur fight. In 2002 he won the U.S. Championships in the heavyweight ( 75-81 kg) and thereby defeated Christopher Tillman, Ivan Stovall, Terrance Johnson, Jacob Garretson and Tavoris Cloud. With the National Golden Gloves of the same year, he reached the second place in the light heavyweight division; after victories against Mike Wood, Eric Kelly, John Venesanakos and Dennis Draper, he lost the final against Allan Green. In 2003, he went on to win the bronze medal in the light heavyweight division at the U.S. championships. Against Orlando Reyes and Shawn Blaney he had fought his way to the semifinals, where he lost to Andre Ward.

In 2004 he was at the age of 19 years professional boxer and quickly made a name as a hard puncher. He won his first 13 fights in a row, including 11 by knockout. Even as an amateur, he had the third highest knockout ratio in the history of the State of New York.

On 20 July 2006 he was defeated at super middleweight in the fight for the WBC Youth World Championships surprisingly early against Marcos Primera from Venezuela, this however defeated in the rematch four months later. His next three fights he could decide for himself, including there was also a points victory against Darnell Boone.

On 16 June 2007 he lost due to the superior speed of his opponent on points against Andre Dirrell, but won his next four fights, including TKO in the third round against the undefeated Poland Piotr Wilczewski.

On 29 January 2010 he lost in an IBF world title elimination on points against Jesse Brinkley. In his next four fights he defeated, among others, Elvin Ayala and Saúl Román, winning the North American championship of the NABF middleweight.

Then he pushed on November 2, 2013 at Madison Square Garden for the WBO world middleweight championship, but lost the Kazakh Gennady Golovkin titleholder prematurely.

In January 2014 he already won in the first round by TKO against the Poles Patrick Majewski. In April, followed by a TKO win against the unbeaten Tureano Johnson.
