Cuscatlán Department

Cuscatlan is one of 14 departments in El Salvador.

The capital of the department is Cojutepeque. The name Cuscatlan goes back to the language Nawat ( Pipil ) and means something like "land of jewels " was founded in the Department on May 22, 1835.

The main economic activities in Cuscatlan are the cultivation of sugar cane, coffee and tobacco. It is known to the department for the specialty sausage chorizo.
