Dakhlet Nouadhibou Region

Dakhlet Nouadhibou (Arabic ولاية داخلة نواذيبو, DMG Wilāyatu Dāḫilati Nawāḏībū ) is the westernmost fourth Administrative Region ( wilaya ) of Mauritania.

The region covers an almost triangular, relatively small area in the west of the country, bordering the Inchiri Administrative Region in the east, to Western Sahara in the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.

The capital is Nouadhibou. In the census of 2000, there were in the region 79 516 inhabitants, of which 72 337 on the capital. Four municipalities with 500-4000 inhabitants are mentioned.

During the Mauritanian occupation of southern Western Sahara from 1976 to 1979 the region were the areas around the two settlements in the West and La Gouira Bir Gandouz affiliated to the north of Nouadhibou. Today Dakhlet Nouadhibou consists of only one department, called Nouadhibou.
