Daniel Majstorović

Daniel Majstorovic ( born April 5, 1977 in Malmö) is a former Swedish footballer of Serbian origin. The central defender has next to Swedish and Croatian citizenship. During his active career he ran outside Sweden in Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece and Scotland, also bestritter 2003-2013 50 caps for the Swedish national team.

Career

Club career

Majstorovic played in youth at Övergrans Habo IF and FF. First stop in the higher-class men's soccer was from 1995 IF Brommapojkarna. During the winter break of the season 1997/98 he moved to SC Fortuna Köln in the Bundesliga 2. There he was at first team regular, scoring on March 14, 1998 in a 1-1 draw against FC St. Pauli his only goal in German professional football. With a second yellow card on the final day he said goodbye to the Fortuna and returned to Sweden.

Majstorovic went to Västerås SK. The club was relegated in the previous season in the Allsvenskan and missed with Majstorovic in third place just under the direct resurgence. The following year was only a mid-table, which meant after all the qualifications for the new single-track second division. As in the 2000 again the rise was missed Majstorovic left after two and a half years at the end of the season and the club moved to the Allsvenskan to Malmö FF.

In the first division to Majstorovic could establish straight into the starting eleven and in the second year came with the club behind Djurgårdens IF the runner-up. With the club he was able to fix the front of the table and with 18 games of the season he wore in the 2004 in the title. In the same year he was chosen by the opponents in the league at the worst possible opponent, but moved in the same season for FC Twente Enschede.

Also in the Eredivisie to Majstorovic sat firmly in the starting XI. However, in January 2006, he attacked his team-mates in training Blaise Nkufo so hard that it almost came to blows. After Majstorovic had come a week later, late for training, he was released by the club because of this lack of discipline. He then moved to FC Basel, where he scored five goals in the remaining 18 games of the season. With the club he was in 2007 and 2008 Swiss Cup Winners' Cup and won the 2008 Swiss championship title. Shortly after the end of the season it was announced that the aerially strong defender left his previous employers in the direction of AEK Athens. The transfer free Swede signed with Greek club a three-year contract.

On August 16, 2010 Majstorovic signed for Scottish giants Celtic Glasgow a contract for two seasons. Right off the bat strain force he replaced temporarily the injured Scott Brown as team captain. While in the championship behind local rivals Glasgow Rangers, the second place in the table was occupied, he reached with the team in 2011 the cup final. On the side of Emilio Izaguirre, Glenn Loovens and Mark Wilson, he prevented in the defensive line a scoring FC Motherwell and thus contributed to the 3-0 win and the title. The following season, however, was overshadowed by injury problems. First, he was injured in mid-December in a collision with David Robertson from FC St. Johnstone, so it turned out several weeks with a broken cheekbone. After his return to the team in early February he was injured a few weeks later during a stay in the national team. In training he was injured in a challenge with Zlatan Ibrahimović, a torn ACL ended the season for him and also provisionally ended hopes of a participation in the European Championship finals in 2012.

The meantime unsigned Majstorovic returned to his homeland in the summer of 2012. In May, he signed a beginning in August - this month the summer transfer window opens in Sweden -. Valid contract with AIK with a term until the end of 2014 In the summer of 2013, he fell out with coach Andreas Alm and the club leadership, his contract was finally the beginning of June with effect resolved on 6 January 2014. In February 2014, he announced the end of his active career to begin training to players' agents, to join the business of his former adviser Rodger lens.

National

Majstorovic debuted on February 16, 2003 in a 3-2 win over the country's selection of Qatar as part of the King's Cup in the Swedish national team. Four days later he scored his third international match in a 4-1 victory over North Korea with the results for the interim 4-0 his first international goal. In the following years he came infrequently used and counted before the 2006 World Cup to the extended national team of Sweden, but was ultimately not included. There he stood 2008 in the international matches against Turkey and Brazil in the starting lineup, he was considered a promising candidate in the fight with Olof Mellberg, Fredrik Risp and Petter Hansson to a mid-table in the Swedish national selection for the European Championships 2008. As a coach Lars Lagerback at 13. May 2008 announced the banns, Majstorovic was part of the 23 player squad. The team failed at the tournament in the first round.

After the Swedish national team not for the World Cup finals in 2010 had been able to qualify, Majstorovic was after the successful qualification for the 2012 European Championship on the candidates for re finals appearance. However, due to injury (see above), he missed the tournament. By the summer of 2013 he was still part of the national side, after his resignation at AIK he was without match practice and coach Erik Hamrén abandoned after 50 international appearances to his services.
