Danville is a city in Yell County in the U.S. state of Arkansas, United States, with 2,392 inhabitants ( 2000). Together with Dardanelle the city is one of two seats of County government ( County Seat). The metropolitan area has a size of 11.2 km ².

The largest part of the urban area is located south of the Petit Jean River. Neighboring towns are in the north Corinth and Belleville.

History

The place was inhabited beginning of the 1840s and named after a river steamer, occasionally the Petit Jean River sailed. Soon after, he was transferred to the County Seat to Danville. 1844 the first courthouse was built. On February 6, 1899 Danville became an independent administrative unit ( Town). Finally, Danville was raised on February 18, 1919 to the city ( City).

The economic base of the city is made of poultry breeding and processing. The company was founded in 1970 Wayne Farms had 865 employees in 2007.
