Darcey Bussell

Darcey Bussell Andrea CBE ( born Darcey Andrea Crittle, born 27 April 1969, London) is an English ballet dancer. Since 2012 she is president of the Royal Academy of Dance.

Biography

Bussell was born as the daughter of Australian businessman John Crittle and his English wife Andrea. After the divorce of her parents she was adopted by new husband of her mother, the Australian dentists Philip Bussell. She attended Fox Primary School in London and then the Arts Educational School in London.

Career as a dancer

With 13 years Bussell ballet lessons at the Royal Ballet School began to take. After her graduation in 1985 the Lower School, she continued her education at the Upper School and appeared in smaller productions at the Royal Opera House. In 1987, the Sadler's Wells Ballet Bussell at.

Even during their time at school, the choreographer Kenneth MacMillan noticed her talent and sent them in 1988 the main role in Benjamin Britten's The Prince of the Pagodas dance, after which she joined the London Royal Ballet. A year later she was promoted to Principal Dancer. She was the youngest dancer in the company until then, which was bestowed this honor.

Bussell danced all main and title roles of the great ballet classics during their careers. Special achievements came with MacMillan's choreography Winter Dreams (as Masha ) and The Prince of the Pagodas (as Princess Rose). She also appeared in several television shows, including the comedy series The Vicar of Dibley and French and Saunders.

She won several awards, including the award for Dancer of the Year, awarded by the magazine Dance and Dancers, and the " Evening Standard Ballet Award" by the Evening Standard newspaper.

On 8 June 2007 Bussell ended her career as a stage dancer with a performance of MacMillan's choreography Song of the Earth ( music of Gustav Mahler ). The performance took place at the Royal Opera House London, was broadcast live by television channels BBC Two and Bussell received at the end more than eight minutes standing ovation.

Bussell has compiled 2007 together with the mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins Viva la Diva the stage show. It is a tribute to the famous personalities who have influenced the two artists, including Madonna and Judy Garland. A part of the show was staged at a gala ceremony in front of the British Queen.

Trivia

After Bussell a rose was named as " Modern Romance Rose," crimson and is described slightly fragrant. She has published a Pilates video and several children's books about a girl who wants to dance ballet written.

Private life

Since 1997, Bussell is married to Australian banker Angus Forbes. They have two daughters, Phoebe (* 2001) and Zoe (* 2004). The family lives in Sydney.
