The Royal Ballet

The Royal Ballet is a ballet company in the UK. It is home to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London and Birmingham.

History

The Royal Ballet was founded by Dame Ninette de Valois. The first permanent home for the then emerging under the name Vic- Wells ballet company was led by Lilian Baylis Sadler 's Wells Theatre. One of the first productions included The Rake 's Progress (1935 ) and Checkmate (1937 ). In addition, Russian Sergei Diaghilev and productions of the Mariinsky Theatre were part of the program. One of the first stars of the ballet company were Alicia Markova and Margot Fonteyn.

The ballet company remained in Sadler 's Well Theatre until 1939. During the war, she performed at numerous places in England. In February 1946, she moved to the Royal Opera House. To mark the reopening of the house Sleeping Beauty was performed to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

1956 the name of The Royal Ballet was awarded by a royal charter to celebrate the 25th anniversary.

Ninette de Valois directed the ballet company until 1963 They were succeeded. :

The accompanying Royal Ballet School in London from forming dancer and ballet teacher. It is not to be confused with the Royal Academy of Dance ( RAD).
