Dark Castle Entertainment is a by Joel Silver (Matrix 1-3 ), Robert Zemeckis, founded ( Back to the Future 1-3) and Gilbert Adler division of Silver Pictures, which usually produces horror movies.
History
Dark Castle Entertainment produced initially mainly remakes from the 50s - including some classics from director William Castle, who was known for his horror films and especially their unconventional marketing.
Dark Castle Entertainment was founded in 1999 to produce horror films regularly. Each new film is to have a classic example, but there was value placed on modern implement the design and the story, based on classical elements, new to tell.
Since the films low ( for Hollywood standards) abroad (Canada, Australia and Germany ) are produced, it is easy for Dark Castle Entertainment to make a profit. The most successful so far Gothika ( with Halle Berry ) with 141 million U.S. dollars, and 13 Ghost Box office total of 68 million U.S. dollars Box office total. The film House of Wax made mainly through the participation of Paris Hilton headlines and played 64 million U.S. dollars.
Production The Reaping 2007 ( with Hilary Swank and David Morrissey in the lead role ) is about a young woman who investigates mysterious events of biblical proportions in a small Texas town.
2008 Joel Silver entered into a strategic alliance with the German Studio Babelsberg AG, which provides for the production of Dark Castle films in Babelsberg and financial assistance from the German studios.
