Dave Stringer

Dave Stringer (born 15 October 1944 Great Yarmouth ) is a former English football player and coach who was active in both functions at Norwich City.

Playing career

Norwich City (1964-1976)

Dave Stringer began his career in the season 1964/65 the English second division Norwich City and established a year later as a regular player. In 1972 he went with his team for the first time in the club's history in the First Division on. The coached by Ron Saunders promoted secured in the Football League First Division 1972/73 in the league and also reached the final of the League Cup (0-1 against Tottenham Hotspur ). After the descent, as Table 1974, Stringer got his team the following season directly back into the first division. For the second time Norwich moved into the League Cup final, but lost again ( 0-1 against Aston Villa). After relegation in the 1975/76 season, Dave Stringer joined in September 1976, Cambridge United and increased 1976/77 on to the third tier. In the season 1977/78 Cambridge succeeded as vice-champion of the direct walkover in the second division.

Coaching career

Norwich City (1987-1992)

After he had previously returned as a youth coach at Norwich City, Dave Stringer took over on 9 November 1987 as a successor to Ken Brown as coach of the first division. According to a fourteenth place in his first season as head coach, Stringer led his team in the First Division 1988/89 on the fourth place, thus achieving the best at this time placing the club's history. In addition, Norwich reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup 1988/89, but missed by a 0-1 against Everton the final. In the following three seasons but the club could not maintain this level and deteriorated continuously. After almost reaching relegation in the Football League First Division 1991/92 and a renewed Halbfinalaus in the FA Cup 1991/92 (0-1 against AFC Sunderland ) the activity of Stringer ended in Norwich in the summer of 1992.
