David Výborný

David Výborný ( born January 22, 1975 in Jihlava, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech ice hockey player who is under contract with the Czech Extraliga club BK Mladá Boleslav since May 2011.

Career

During his youth, he played for HC Sparta Prague, where he also began his professional career. In the NHL Entry Draft in 1993 it chose the Edmonton Oilers in the second round as the 33rd from. In 1994 he moved to North America and played with the Cape Breton Oilers in the American Hockey League. After only one year, he returned to Prague. At the Ice Hockey World Championship for Men 1996, he won his first world championship title with the Czech national team. For the season 1997/98 he tried again abroad and played in the Swedish Elitserien for MoDo Hockeyklubb. Here he was the best scorer of his team. After a year in Sweden, he returned again to Sparta Prague. The Ice Hockey World Championship for Men in 1999 earned him his second title and after his third success in 2000, he tried to gain a foothold again in the NHL.

He signed with the newly formed team of the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he was quickly into a solid NHL player. Since it did not make the team in his first season in the playoffs, he had time for his country at the World Ice Hockey Championship for Men to play in 2001 and was able to win his fourth world title.

When the NHL went on strike in the 2004/05 season, he was playing for his hometown club Sparta Prague. In the season 2005/ 06 he was the best scorer for the first time the Blue Jackets, reaching more than 60 points scorer. At the Olympic Winter Games in Turin in 2006, he won the bronze medal with the national team.

As a player of the first hour he held a long time several franchise records of the Blue Jackets. He took second place in the eternal Scorer list of franchise from the U.S. state of Ohio. In April 2008, he signed a three year contract with the Czech Extraliga club HC Sparta Prague, where he began his career and his father František Výborný was head coach. In addition to its operations as a player and team captain, he also served as sports director.

In May 2011 he left Sparta Prague and moved within the league for BK Mladá Boleslav.
