David Whitaker (composer)

David Sinclair Whitaker ( born January 6, 1931 in Kingston, † January 11, 2012 in Oxfordshire ) was a British film composer.

Life

Whitaker began his career in the 1960s as an arranger for numerous well-known artists of the British and French music scene as The Rolling Stones, Marianne Faithfull, Serge Gainsbourg, France Gall, Johnny Hallyday, Air, Etienne Daho, Claude François, and later Jimmy Page and Simply Red he often worked with the BBC Radio Orchestra.

Whitaker led some recording sessions of the BBC Radio Orchestra in the Maida Vale Studios, London in the early 80s, including a mix of his own compositions and arrangements.

For over 20 films in the 1970s, for example, in addition to composers such as James Bernard, Harry Robinson, and Christopher Gunning for Hammer Studios, he worked as a conductor, arranger or composer.

He was nominated for both the French César film award as well as the American Film Prize of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.
