De Friese Meren ( Frisian: De Fryske Marren ) is a municipality in the Dutch province of Fryslân ( Friesland). It was created on 1 January 2014 by the merger of the former municipalities Gaasterlân - Sleat, Lemsterland and Skarsterlân, and the taking of part of a territory of the former municipality Boarnsterhim. The new municipality has 51,200 inhabitants ( as at 1 January 2014).
