Deborah Drattell

Deborah Drattell ( born 1956 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American composer.

Drattell after their training several years Composer in Residence of the Denver Symphony Orchestra was led by Philippe Entremont. Among others, emerged during this period Sorrow is not Melancholy for string orchestra, the orchestral suite Lilith, which was premiered by the New York Philharmonic, the Clarinet Concerto Fire Dances for David Shifrin and the Flute Concerto The Fire Within for Ransom Wilson.

From 1998 to 2001 Drattell was Composer in Residence at the Glimmerglass Opera. It was here, among others the opera Lilith, after a concert performance in 1998 at the New York City Opera in 2001 had its stage premiere, and the one-act opera, The Festival of Regrets (UA 1999). 2003 premiered at the Los Angeles Opera Nicholas and Alexandra with Placido Domingo in the role of Rasputin.

Several works composed for the soprano Lauren Flanigan Drattell so Letters Home from texts by Sylvia Plath, Eishes Chayil, the song cycle Love Gave It To Me by Anna Akhmatova and alone after a poem by Edgar Allan Poe.
