Delain, Haute-Saône

Delain is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Delain is located at an altitude of 206 m above sea level, 15 km north-northeast of Gray and about 48 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the west of the department, in the northwest of the plateau landscape Saônetals, on the northern edge of the valley of the Parlor.

The area of ​​12.20 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau north of the Saônetals. The southern boundary runs along the Salon, drawing a north -flung arc here. It flows through a roughly one -kilometer-wide Talniederung, which is on average 202 m, and drains the area east to the Saône. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward over the flood plain and a 30 m high steep slope down to the adjacent plateau. This plateau, which lies at 240 m, consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic period. The western boundary is marked by a dry valley, which opens next to Delain into the valley of the Parlor. In the Talniederung the salon and on the plateau dominates agricultural use. In the north of communal land extends into the vast grove of Forêt de Dampierre. With 268 m is reached on a knoll at the homestead Andrevin the highest elevation of Delain.

Neighboring communities of Delain are Larret and Fouvent -Saint- Andoche in the north, Dampierre- sur-Salon in the East, and Denèvre Montot in the south and Achey and Courtesoult -et- Gatey in the West.

History

The territory of Delain was settled very early. At the beginning of the 19th century remains of a Roman thoroughfare and Roman coins and brick fragments were discovered. Delain is mentioned as Delein, Delen and Delainz. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local rule over Delain held the Lords of Dampierre. The Coming of Aumonières had land in the village. Over the years the village has undergone numerous changes of ownership before it came to the domination Rupt 1460. In 1569 Delain was plundered and burned by troops of the Duke of Zweibrücken. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Delain is a member of the comprehensive 42 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières.

Attractions

The village church of Delain in 1831 newly built, while the bell tower dates from 1788. It has furniture, altars and paintings from the 18th century and stained glass. The Lavoir whose roof is supported by numerous columns, was built in 1820. It was once used as a wash house and livestock watering.

Population

With 233 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Delain is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century a decline in population was recorded (1881 were still 406 persons counted ).

Economy and infrastructure

Delain until well into the 20th century was a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are individual holdings of local small businesses, especially in the sectors of wood processing and construction. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the room Gray their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Dampierre- sur-Salon by Champlitte. Further road links exist with Gatey and Montot.
