Demänovská Dolina

Demänovská Dolina is a municipality in the north-west of the Low Tatras in the middle of Slovakia. It was created on 1 August 1964 as a spin-off from the communities Bodice and Demänova (now both parts of the city of Liptovsky Mikulas ), the settlements Tri Studničky, jaskyne, Repiská, Lúčky and Jasna were merged. The community takes its name from the homonymous valley, which is one of the most visited valleys in the Low Tatras with its 16 kilometers in length.

Geography and Geology

Geologically, the municipality be divided into two parts: the upper, certain of granite, open part and in the north and deeper narrow limestone canyon.

Geographically, the upper part of the municipal area under the peaks in the northwest of Siná ( 1,560 meters), in the northeast of Krakova hola ( 1751.8 meters), in the southeast of Dumbier ( 2043.4 meters) and in the southwest of Polana ( 1889.7 meters) completed. History

The territory has been inhabited since the Ice Age, which Excavations in the cave Okno ( Jaskyňa Okno ). Thereafter, the municipality a long time was not settled. Tourism

The place is dominated by tourism. In the summer of Jasna hiking tours to the major peaks of the Low Tatras - eg Chopok and Dumbier - possible. In winter Jasna is a well known ski resort.

Major attractions are two caves of the karst cave system in the Low Tatras:

  • Demänovska stalactite cave ( Cave Demänovska Sloboda ),
  • Demänovska Cave ( Demänovská Ice Cave ).
  • Okno Cave ( Jaskyňa Okno )

Jasna ski resort

Today, especially ski tourists the name Jasna is a term, since over the years has established there a large ski area. This ski area extends from Jasna on the northern slope of Chopok and continue on the southern slope of the valley Bystrá dolina with this resort Srdiečko. On the south side of the ski area in Krupová begins at 1080 m, to the north by the Záhradky Hut 1028 m altitude.

Currently there are in the ski resort of Jasna a gondola, five chairlifts and drag lifts sixteen. Furthermore, downhill slopes of blue ( easy ) to red (high) to black (difficult) available.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, in the ski resort of Jasna different Ski World Cup took place.
