Democratic Party (South Korea, 2011)

The Democratic Party (Korean: 민주당, Minju - dang, English Democratic Party, DP), 2013 United Democratic Party is a liberal party of the center-left in South Korea.

It was on 15 December 2011 from the merger, which was founded in 2008 Democratic Party, which was the strongest opposition party, with the small Citizens Unity Party, with the participation of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, under the name of United Democratic Party ( 민주 통합 당, Minju - tonghab - dang; Democratic United Party, DUP ) was founded. The formation was seen in the light of the approaching parliamentary elections in April 2012, in which the center-left forces attempt to replace the conservative Saenuri Party from the government.

At the first congress of the party on January 15, 2012 Han Myung- sook was elected party chairman. Han was from 2006 to 2007 South Korea's first and so far the only, Prime Minister. After the electoral defeat of her party in the parliamentary elections in South Korea in 2012 she announced her departure from her position as party chairman.

The party colors were yellow and green, with yellow dominated the election campaign.

On 4 May 2013, the party called back to the Democratic Party. The party color is blue ever since. On the same day, Kim Han -gil was elected the new party chairman. June Byung -hun was elected Chairmen of DP in the South Korean parliament ( Gukhoe ) on May 15, 2013.

On 2 March 2014, Kim Cheol -soo Ahn agreed with the establishment of a joint party before the regional elections in June 2014. March 26, 2014, the new political alliance was for Democracy (The New Politics Alliance for Democracy ) founded, whose joint chairman Ahn and Kim are.
