Korean Broadcasting System

Korean Broadcasting System ( KBS ) is a South Korean broadcaster, which operates several radio and television programs. It is the oldest public and the largest broadcasting company in South Korea.

Structure

KBS is a ' public ' means, which regulated by a law of public funds by the South Korean government gets, but is managed independently. However, the director is appointed by the government.

Approximately 37.3 % of the income receives KBS from the catchment of television license fees. The monthly license fee is 2,500 won. The greater part, namely 39.8 % of the income comes from the sale of advertising time. For state programs such as the international radio service (Radio Korea International, part of KBS World Radio ) KBS will also receive funds from the government.

Channels

Terrestrial

  • KBS 1TV - The program includes news, updates, education and culture. Broadcasting was in 1961 as KBS TV. KBS 1TV shows no advertising and is funded entirely from television license fees.
  • Shown are entertainment programs and sport - KBS 2TV. Broadcasting was in 1980 as a replacement for TBC TV.

Cable and Satellite TV

  • KBS Prime - culture channel, the broadcast started in 1996 as KBS 2 satellite, renamed after KBS Korea 2002.
  • KBS Drama - earlier than KBS Sky Drama known, begins broadcasting, 2002.
  • KBS N Sports - sports broadcaster, formerly known as KBS Sports / KBS Sky Sports announced the broadcast started in 2002.
  • KBS Joy - entertainment channel, broadcasting beginning in 2006.
  • KBS Kids - children's channel, the broadcast started in 2012.
  • KBS W - women's station, begins broadcasting, 2013.

These six channels are broadcast in Korea via cable and satellite. There are more than 100 cable TV provider. However, there are Skylife with only one supplier of satellite TV. These channels are maintained by KBS N, a subsidiary of KBS.

Radio

  • KBS Radio 1 (AM / FM) - news, updates, documentation, and culture. Was started in 1927 as JODK.
  • KBS Radio 2 (AM / FM) - Entertainment. Beginning in 1961 as a second program of KBS.
  • KBS Radio 3 (AM) - Sending recording in 1964 as RSB (Radio Seoul Broadcasting), renamed in the 70 years after TBC Radio, current name since 1980, but transmission setting in 1981, was replaced by KBS Radio 2 (now EBS FM), again it begins broadcasting in 2000, a spin-off of KBS Radio 2
  • KBS 1FM (FM) - classical and popular music. The broadcast started in 1979 as KBS- FM.
  • KBS 2FM ( 89.1 MHz Cool FM) - Pop music. The broadcast started in 1966 as TBC FM.
  • KBS social radio ( shortwave ) - broadcast started in 1975 as KBS third program.

KBS World

KBS World is the international division of KBS. The Broadcasting began on 1 July 2003. The TV channel of KBS World consists mostly of shipments of KBS 2TV KBS 1TV and. KBS World is spread over several international networks and satellites and is receivable in 32 countries. In some countries, the program can only be received in return for payment ( subscription ), as well (via satellite) in Germany. KBS World is also seen in some German cable networks. From 1 February the encrypted mode is set via satellite in SD format. The broadcasting in HD format started at the beginning of the year unencrypted and is therefore free.

Japan KBS World is operated by KBS Japan. KBS Japan is another subsidiary of KBS. Virtually all programs are broadcast with Japanese subtitles.
