Denis Sokolov (ice hockey)

Denis Jurjewitsch Sokolov (Russian Денис Юрьевич Соколов; born January 27, 1977 in Sverdlovsk, Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who is under contract with HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk in the Kontinental Hockey League since October 2013.

Career

Denis Sokolov began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior section of Dynamo-Energy Yekaterinburg, for the first team, he made his debut in the International Hockey League in the 1993/94 season. In his only season use, he gave an assist. In the period following the defender played only for the second team of Dynamo-Energy in the third-class Perwaja League before he was between 1997 and 2001 as a regular player for his team in the Super League on the ice. For the season 2001 /02 he moved within the Super League to Ak Bars Kazan. With his new team, he immediately reached the play-off final, where he defeated his opponent Lokomotiv Yaroslavl with Kazan in the best- of-seven series with a sweep.

The 2002/03 season began with Ak Bars Kazan Sokolow, but moved after only one game in the Super League to Molot Perm - Prikamye, in 33 games for which he scored a goal and had five assists. From 2003 to 2007 he was at Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk under contract before the top club Lokomotiv Yaroslavl he spent the 2007/08 season, in which he was defeated in the best- of-five series with 2:3 victories in the playoff finals Salavat Yulaev Ufa. For the season 2008/ 09 he returned to Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, which had been taken in the meantime to the newly formed Continental Hockey League. He spent the following season at HK Sibir Novosibirsk.

For the 2010/11 season he was engaged by Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg from his hometown. In 49 games for Awtomobilist he scored 25 points scorer, with four goals, setting a new personal record on KHL. Since Awtomobilist the playoffs could not reach, Sokolow was issued till end of season to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. For torpedo he remained until the end of season no points in five games and won two penalty minutes, before he returned to Awtomobilist.

After the 2012/13 season, he was first out of contract before he was obliged by HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk in October 2013.
