Derrimut (Victoria)

Derrimut is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria and is 18 km from the center of Melbourne. He belongs to the administrative area of Brimbank City. At the 2006 census, the population was 1501.

The previously predominantly agricultural area grew from about 2003, when the development of Brimbank Gardens began. Between 2001 and 2006 the population grew, as new housing estates were built and even individual companies settled in Derrimut. The place was named after the Aboriginal Arweet Derrimut, who lived in the 19th century in the region of Melbourne.

From 1 June 1866 to 1918 was on the then still rural area used a post office. Later, the place served as a training and conference center for Imperial Chemical Industries (now Orica ). From 1964 to 1996, the grounds of the University of Melbourne in the course agriculture was used. The Victoria University offered in the late 1980s there courses.
