Diemtigen

Diemtigen is a municipality in the administrative district of Frutigen- Niedersimmental of the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Diemtigen is a so-called mixed community. Under the same name, a Reformed congregation exists.

Geography

Diemtigen located in the Bernese Oberland in the Alps. The villages of Oey and Diemtigen located at the foot of the Diemtigtal, which mainly comprises the community. Oey is right on the Simme. The municipality comprises the eight Bäuerten Oey, Diemtigen, Bächlen, Horben, Riedern, Entschwil, Zwischenflüh and Schwenden.

The neighboring communities of north clockwise beginning are Erlenbach im Simmental, Brodhüsi, Reichenbach, Frutigen, Adelboden, St. Stephan, Two Simmen, Gstaad, Oberwil and Därstetten.

Policy

Mayor Peter Knutti, council president is Martin Wiedmer (2011 ).

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 63.3 %, 14.2 % BDP, SP 6.2 %, EDU 3.8 %, FDP 3.1 %, 2.9 % GPS, glp 2.0 %, 1.4 % EPP, CVP 0.3 % l.

History

The first written mention of Diemtigen dates from the year 1257 as Diem Tingen. In 1439 the city of Bern acquired jurisdiction over Diemtigen.

Diemtigen and the Diemtigtal were affected on 21 August 2005 by a devastating flood.
